IGEL - Informatik GrEnzenLos

A stay abroad does not only serve your scientific career, but also is of high value to your personal development. The “IGEL – Informatik GrEnzenLos” (Informatics without Borders) scholarship program supports selected students in writing their graduation thesis at excellent universities and research institutions abroad.

The IGEL program is one element of the Begabtenkolleg der Fakultät für Informatik (College for Gifted Students of the Department of Informatics) and funded by a private foundation (managed by the Commerzbank-Stiftung).

Funding
Funding is to help make a plan come true and usually granted as a single allocation prior to the stay. The amount of funding depends on the presumable costs of the stay, the place and the duration of the stay (three or six months).

The IGEL program may be combined with other scholarships, provided that the institutions granting the latter agree. In case of a combination with the interACT program of KIT, however, the payments are set off, such that funding under IGEL will be reduced. In case the graduation thesis will not be completed or not successful due to the gross negligence of the student, the complete amount of the scholarship will have to be paid back.

Application Procedure
Students having the approval of a foreign university or research institution may apply for an IGEL scholarship.
