Financing Your Studies

According to the 18th social report by the German Student Services, the average cost of living for students in Germany is €739 per month. A detailed overview of the estimated costs of studying including tuition fees, costs of living, insurance etc. can be found in the "Informationsschrift Studienfinanzierung" ( Information brochure on financing studies) at the ZIB – Centre for Information and Consultancy.
The direct costs for studying at the KIT consist of:

  • the fee for the student services of currently €77,50 per term
  • the administration fee of €60 per term, and
  • the tuition fees of €500 per term.
(have been waived since summer term 2012)

A degree in Informatics / Information Engineering and Management is a full-time course of study. It is therefore not possible to pursue normal employment at the same time.  However, there are various funding options available if your family is unable to carry the costs. These are also outlined in detail in the ZIB brochure.

In addition, studying can be financed by:

  • Scholarships
  • BAföG
  • Loans and credits
  • Small jobs
