BOGY (German: Berufs- und Studienorientierung am Gymnasium in Baden-Württemberg, translated "Vocational and study orientation at the Gymnasium in the federal state of Baden-Wurttemberg) offers help in making decisions. It helps to provide school pupils with the necessary overview in the jungle of different vocations at an early age, i.e. not just shortly before gaining their general qualification for university entrance.
For two years, the Department of Informatics has already been offering an internship in the field of Informatics for school pupils of the German equivalent of grammar schools, named informatikBOGY. This project is sponsored by future-oriented IT companies of the technology region Karlsruhe and the local association of software engineers "Verein der Karlsruher Software Ingenieure" (VKSI).
KIT's and VKSI's goal is to inform young talents on careers in the field of Informatics to break down stereotypes and reservations concerning job descriptions. During the five days of internship, the common image of information and computer scientists as computer nerds will be eliminated. Particularly girls are encouraged to select education as an information scientist.
The BOGY internship was introduced into the curriculum for pupils of the German equivalent of grammar schools in the upper grades of the G9 concept or the 9th to 12th grade of the German G8 concept in the federal state of Baden-Wurttemberg. Applications for informatikBOGY can be filed by pupils with interest in informatics, new technologies, mathematics, and natural and technical sciences. Prior knowledge in programming is not required.
During the informatikBOGY week, pupils are informed on the every-day life of information scientists doing research at the KIT, participate in interactive tours (computer centre, Research Centre of Informatics and many more), get to know the every-day life of information scientists on the job in the partner company of the association "Verein der Karlsruher Software Ingenieure" (VKSI), and complete their own internship project. Each internship week is designed differently and offers some surprises for our taster information scientists.
Please apply with a letter of introduction (including date of the BOGY internship), a curriculum vitae with a photography and a copy of your last (current) school report. You can send your complete application documents by email to Tatiana Rhode (email@example.com) or by "snail mail" to:
