“CollaBaWue” is a project commissioned by Landesstiftung Baden-Wuerttemberg foundation, which aims at increasing the overall productivity in the development lifecycle of enterprise applications. In this respect, the main objective of the project is to promote industrialisation in enterprise application development focussing on the particularities of the financial service provider domain.

The development of a collaborative, component-based process model and adequate software development tools for supporting inter-firm building of enterprise applications serves as cornerstone of the “CollaBaWue” project. While this predominant task emerges as being of primarily technical nature, it is decisive to underpin the component interchange process chain by a sound business reference model. Moreover, legal issues - e.g. questions of copyright and intellectual property - will be addressed within the scope of this project.

Since component retrieval and seamless integration of components created by different vendors turn out to be an integral part of the “CollaBaWue” project, formal semantic methods and modelling standards are employed for describing component metadata and application domain. Consequently, a so-called component platform for storing and distributing software components as well as exchanging component and domain metadata within the development process is developed.

Some of the leading research centers and universities in Baden-Wuerttemberg are involved. At the University of Mannheim, the Department of Information Systems (chairs of Prof. Heinzl and Prof. Schader) participate in this project. The research groups Program Structures (Prof. Goos), Database Systems (Prof. Lockemann), Business Process Engineering and Management (Prof. Stucky) and Knowledge Management (Prof. Studer) at the Research Center for Information Technologies (“Forschungszentrum Informatik”, FZI) in Karlsruhe contribute to “CollaBaWue” project. Further, the Institute of Information Law at the University of Karlsruhe (Prof. Dreier) and the Institute AIFB (Prof. Oberweis) are part of the research consortium. Finally, the “CollaBaWue” project closely cooperates with several enterprises from the domain of financial service providers, software development and IT services in Baden-Wuerttemberg.
