They were closely followed by the FAU team FAUst FAUrier TransFAUrm, which also solved 12 problems. A total of 10 teams competed for KIT and won three medals.

On July 15, 2026, the annual German Collegiate Programming Contest (GCPC) took place. The goal of this programming contest is to solve as many of the given problems as possible within five hours. Each team, consisting of up to three students, has only one computer at its disposal. In addition to strong programming skills, teamwork and organization are therefore essential.
Participants

The most successful participants this year were the three informatics and mathematics students Lennart Blumenthal, Florian Brendle, and Sebastian Kirmayer from KIT. They solved 12 problems and were the first team to submit a correct solution for three of them. In doing so, they defended first place for KIT.
The competition from Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) also solved 12 problems but was slightly slower than the KIT team. The third-place team from the Hasso Plattner Institute solved 10 problems.
In total, over 100 teams participated in this year’s GCPC. Ten of them represented KIT. The teams Infinite L∞pers and Where’s my cappuccino ☕ won gold, while the team [Kœr]ectness In Theory won silver.

These strong results bode well for the next round of the competition. This year’s Northwestern European Regional Contest (NWERC) will take place at KIT in November.
