Additional examinations / Additional academic credits

Additional Examinations stand for "Additional Academic Credits". In the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Informatics, as well as in the Bachelor's degree program in Information Systems, 30 additional academic credits cand be earned. They do not affect the grade of the degree sought, nor do they count to the number of credits to be achieved. Registration takes place online. All examinations from all KIT degree programs can be taken as additional credits. In this way, for example, modules from other disciplines, faculties or degree programs can also be taken. These credits are not usualy listed on the final certificate, but they are listed in the Transcript of Records. Fully completed modules can be listed on the final certificate and if so applied for.

If examinations have been transfered in this area, they are part of the  "Additional Examinations" module. The same applies to key qualifications and language courses. You may apply, that this module is listed in the final certificate.

For more information, see also the article Final documents.

Additional credits can also be used for the following purposes:

Please note that in the Information Systems degree program, it is not possible to transfer credits earned from the additional examinations area back to the study-relevant modules and in the Informatics / Computer Science degree programs this is only possible to a limited extent. In the Informatics / Computer Science degree programs, it is only possible to transfer credits back to the study-relevant modules, if by this change the degree program is completed or you wish to change the minor studies. Example: 6 CP are still missing for the completion of the degree program and the additional credits include one passed examination with 6 CP or two passed examinations with 3 CP each. Another example is when there are enough credits already in the additional examinations area, in order to completly switch the minor studies.

It is also possible to complete additional credits in the teaching degree program. Please contact Student Services (SLE) or the Center for Teacher Education (ZLB) directly
