Interdisciplinary qualifications (key competences)
With the key and interdisciplinary qualifications, knowledge is acquired that is not directly related to a informatics degree, but which is advantageous for later professional life.
In the Bachelor of Informatics, the area of key competences comprises 6 credit points. Of these, 2 CP in the area of key competencess are earned in the Bachelor of Informatics with the mandatory module Teamwork in Software Development.
In the Master of Informatics, 2 to 6 credit points can be earned in the area of key competences. As soon as you earn less than 6 credit points here, the ISS must manually set this subject area to "passed" on the system side. In this case, please send us an e-mail to beratung-informatik∂informatik.kit.edu.
Courses
All courses from the following institutions can be taken in the Key competences module:
-
House of Competence (HoC)
-
Studium Generale. Forum Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft (FORUM) (with the exception of computer science courses and courses from the supplementary subject)
-
Language Center (SpZ) (with the exception of German courses)
-
Special faculty-internal courses
It is not possible to take courses that can be taken in the elective area, in the area of specialization or supplementary subject. "T-MATH-106119 Introduction to Python" cannot be taken in the B.Sc. Informatics and M.Sc. Informatics as a course in the area of interdisciplinary qualifications.
Crediting and booking
At subject level, key competences are credited as non-graded coursework. Achievements are recorded with or without a grade (as certified by the lecturer), but the area of interdisciplinary qualifications is only shown as passed / failed in the study plan. This means that only the credit points (and not the grades) are taken into account for the degree (both in the Bachelor's and Master's programs).
The interdisciplinary qualifications obtained at the HOC, ZAK and Language Center are recorded directly in your credit account. For most degree programs, it is now possible for you as a student to assign interdisciplinary qualifications via self-registration. You will find the option of self-booking in your study plan in the "ÜQ/SQ-Leistung" tab. You can find a description of self-registration in CAS here. There is also a video tutorial on self-enrolment available. If self-registration is not possible, please contact the ISS by e-mail.
Certificates of attendance cannot be credited in the area of key competences. In order for the course to be recognized, a performance review must be carried out and the results certified.
