Exams: registration / deregistration / repetition
Exam registration and deregistration
Registration for exams
Exams can usually be registered for in the student portal within a period of approx. 4 weeks to a few days before the exam. This period may vary depending on the exam. Digital exam registrations must be made within the semester in question. This means that it is strongly recommended to register for exams in the system by 15.03. in the winter semester and 15.09. in the summer semester.
Participation in exams without online registration is not permitted (see §5 SPO). Before the exam dates, all students are requested to ensure that the status is actually "registered". If registration is successful, proof should be printed out directly. In cases of doubt, the ISS should be contacted.
Each module and each exam may only be taken once. If an exam can be taken in several modules, the exam is assigned to the module in which the student registered (first).
Prerequisite errors during registration
If a prerequisite error is returned when registering online for an exam, this usually means that not all prerequisites have been met in order to be able to take this exam in the corresponding module. The respective prerequisites can be found in the relevant module handbook.
If an error is returned despite all prerequisites having been met, please contact the ISS. Please do not forget your matriculation number and a picture of the error.
Another possibility is that the exam for the course is no longer offered in the corresponding module or in general. In this case, the correct constellation of exams and their assignments to modules and subjects can be found in the module handbook. In case of doubt, please contact the ISS / WiWi Examinations Office.
Deregistration
Within the deregistration period, an exam registered online can be deregistered in the student portal.
After this period, it is only possible to deregister from written exams (in person and in writing) directly with the responsible examiner or in the lecture hall directly before the exam without giving reasons until the exam papers are issued. Cancellation of an oral exam must be submitted to the responsible examiner or their office. Deregistration must be declared at least three working days before the exam date. A personal appearance may be required for deregistration.
If the exam date is missed without a valid reason or deregistration, the examination is deemed to have been failed.
Deregistration from the exam (with a medical certificate)
Deregistration after the deregistration deadline is only possible for a reason that cannot be justified (so-called withdrawal). The reason for deregistration must be communicated to the examiner in writing and without delay. Students must provide evidence of these reasons.
In the case of an application for withdrawal due to incapacity for exam due to illness, the characteristics of incapacity for examination due to illness and the requirements for the content of the medical certificate must be observed.
Furthermore, the instructions for handling medical certificates must be observed!
Repetition of exams
Repeating an exam
Each exam can be repeated once. In the case of written exams, repeated failures are followed by an oral re-exam, which can only be graded as pass or fail. An oral exam is definitively failed if it has been failed twice. A written exam is definitively failed if the oral re-examination has not been passed. An exam of another type is definitively failed if it has been failed twice. Exceptions can be found in the module handbook.
With the exception of the orientation exam, a second repetition can be applied for in the event of a final failure.
Coursework can be repeated at will.
When repeating practical courses and seminars, it is not necessary to take the same courses.
Deadlines for 1st repetitions of an exam end:
B. Sc. Computer Science SPO 2015 and SPO 2022: at the latest at the end of the exam period of the fourth semester following the semester in which the exam was not taken for the first time
M. Sc. Computer Science SPO 2015: at the latest by the end of the exam period of the fourth semester following the semester in which the exam was failed for the first time
B. Sc. Business Informatics 2019: at the latest at the end of the exam period of the semester after next.
Teacher training in Computer Science: B. Ed. Computer Science, M. Ed. Computer Science, M. Ed. extension subject: The study and exam regulations do not stipulate any deadlines here.
Second repetition of an exam
Applications for a second retake of an exam must be submitted within 2 months of the announcement of the result. If the application is approved, the second retake must take place at the latest on the next but one exam date, including in the B. Ed. Computer Science, M. Ed. Computer Science and M. Ed. extension subject degree programs.
A maximum of one application for a second retake can be submitted for an exam.
