Elevctive modules
Any modules from the elective offer can be taken in the elective area. Exceeding the maximum CP must be approved by the ISS and the corresponding module must be entered in CAS. This can only be done with a maximum of one module.
Exceeding the maximum number of credit points results in an CP overlap. Information on how grades are calculated in this case is described here.
Informatics Bachelor SPO 2015
Any modules from the elective offer can be taken in the elective area. Master's courses can also be taken (see below). The elective area comprises a maximum of 32 CP (if the module Analysis 1 and 2 was taken instead of Higher Mathematics and/or the module Linear Algebra 1 and 2 instead of Linear Algebra for Computer Science, max. 29 CP or 25 CP). It should be noted that at least two root modules and one undergraduate seminar with at least 3 CP must be completed (only one undergraduate seminar can be taken). After deducting these mandatory modules, 17 CP can be freely selected in the elective area. Master's courses can be selected in the M-INFO-104748 Advanced Informatic Courses module. The procedure is described in the FAQ entry Master's modules.
A total of up to 9 CP can be earned in the Bachelor's degree program in Informatics from internships, basic internships and seminars (including the undergraduate seminar). Only the (undergraduate) seminars and (basic) internships that are completed at the KIT Department of Informatics (i.e. not in the minor studies) are taken into account. If the modules taken result in more than 32 ECTS credits in the elective area, a credit point blend takes place at the level of the elective area. The grade of the elective area contributes a maximum of 32 CP to the Bachelor's final grade. It is not possible to take new modules in the elective area once the limit of 32 CP has been reached.
Informatics Bachelor SPO 2022
Any modules from the elective offer can be taken in the elective area. The elective area comprises a maximum of 31 CP (if the module Analysis 1 and 2 was taken instead of Higher Mathematics and/or the module Linear Algebra 1 and 2 instead of Linear Algebra for Computer Science, max. 28 CP or 24 CP). It should be noted that at least one root module and one undergraduate seminar must be taken. After deducting these mandatory modules, 24-31 CP can be freely selected. Master's courses can be selected in the M-INFO-104748 Advanced Informatic Courses module. The procedure is described in the FAQ entry Master's modules.
A total of up to 9 CP can be earned from internships, basic internships and seminars (including the undergraduate seminar) in the Bachelor's degree program in Informatics. Only the (undergraduate) seminars and (basic) internships that are completed at the KIT Departmen of Informatics (i.e. not in the minor studies) are taken into account. If the modules taken result in more than 31 ECTS credits in the elective area, a blend takes place at the level of the elective area. The grade of the elective area contributes a maximum of 31 CP to the Bachelor's final grade. It is not possible to take new modules in the elective area if the limit of 31 CP has been reached.
Informatics Master SPO 2015 and SPO 2023
An elective area must be completed as part of the Master's degree program. The credit points of the elective area are variable and depend on how many credit points have been earned in the other subjects. In the elective area
-
according to SPO 2015, a minimum of 12 CP and a maximum of 49 CP (120 CP minus the mandatory credits in the other subjects and the Master's thesis)
-
according to SPO 2023, a minimum of 6 CP and a maximum of 49 CP must be completed (120 CP minus the mandatory credits in the other subjects and the Master's thesis)
All modules from the areas of specialization can be selected in the elective area. When selecting, however, care should be taken to ensure that there are still a sufficient number of modules available for the desired areas of specialization.
Information Systems Bachelor SPO 2019
Informatics
In addition to the mandatory modules, elective modules totaling between 9 and 18 credit points must be completed in Informatics. If elective modules with a total of 18 credit points are selected, only elective modules with a total of 9 credit points can be completed in Economics and Management.
Economics and Management
In addition to the mandatory modules, one or two elective modules worth 9 credit points each must be completed in Business Administration, Economics, Operations Research and Statistics. If two elective modules with a total of 18 credit points are selected, only elective modules with a total of 9 credit points can be completed in Informatics.
Informatics B.Ed. and M.Ed
Informatics B.Ed.
Elective modules of at least 8 CP must be completed. You can choose from the entire range of courses offered by the KIT Department of Informatics. If the desired modules cannot be selected in CAS, this should be communicated by e-mail to the ISS address beratung-informatik∂informatik.kit.edu. The ISS will select the module for you in CAS. You can then register for the exam yourself in the system.
