At this year's German Collegiate Programming Contest (GCPC) on July 5, 2025, the "Infinite L∞pers" team from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) won the competition with an outstanding performance. The three computer science and mathematics students Lennart Blumenthal, Florian Brendle and Sebastian Kirmayer were the only team to solve all 13 tasks correctly - a rare success in a top-class field of 110 teams from all over Germany.
In addition to the impressive top performance of "Infinite L∞pers", two other KIT teams were also able to impress: "Künstliche InkompeTenz" and "Team Above Stole Our Solutions" secured the silver medal with 10 solved tasks each. A total of twelve KIT teams competed and achieved consistently strong results.
The GCPC is an annual programming competition in which teams of up to three students have to solve as many algorithmic problems as possible within five hours. In addition to technical expertise, teamwork and strategic planning are also crucial, as each team only has one computer at its disposal. The solutions are evaluated by an automated system that checks correctness and efficiency.
With the renewed success at the GCPC, the faculty is now looking forward to the next round of the competition: the Northwestern Europe Regional Contest (NWERC) will take place at KIT in November 2025 - a home game where the best teams from Northwestern Europe will meet.
