INFORMATIK is the annual conference and the most important meeting place of the Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (GI), the largest computer science association in the German-speaking world. This year's annual conference DATA PROCESSING is organized by Professor Ralf Reussner of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) as conference director and Professor Anne Koziolek of KIT as program coordinator with her teams at KIT and the FZI Forschungszentrum Informatik, a KIT innovation partner. In the organization, the professors Peter Lockemann, Alexander Mädche, and Andreas Oberweis from KIT support the conference. In keeping with the motto Back to the Future, this annual conference not only celebrates its 50th anniversary, but for the first time is mainly held virtually and free of charge.

Programme

The annual conference itself will take place from 29.09. to 01.10.2020, the workshops on 28.09., 01.10. and 02.10.2020. The conference programme will focus on topics that are currently receiving particular attention in science, practice and society. These range from energy informatics and mobility systems, data science, artificial intelligence and intelligent robotics to safe and reliable systems. The workshops address current challenges in a wide range of computer science topics, such as artificial intelligence, computer science teaching in schools, cyber-physical systems or environmental computer science. Highlights of the diverse programme are two top-class keynotes and three panel discussions with participants from science, practice and society.

Digital Innovation Challenge

A special highlight of the conference is the Digital Innovation Challenge, in which students are to develop innovative software solutions in teams within 24 hours to meet the challenges of the industry partners andrena objects, capgemini, CAS Software AG, Google, IBM and SAP. A prize money of 2.000€ is waiting for you.

Virtual participation

For the virtual participation, versatile platforms are used, such as a video conferencing system for the execution of the presentations, workshops, discussions and break-out groups; a question and chat platform for text-based feedback, questions, and exchange as well as virtual, interactive rooms for the coffee breaks. In addition, the panel discussions and keynotes will be broadcast from one studio in Karlsruhe and another one in Berlin, where questions can be asked live via the question system to the participants. Apart from a current browser, no additional software is required for participation. The technical and practical implementation of the virtual conference will be carried out by Karlsruhe Messe- und Kongress GmbH, AVDATA GmbH and the Weizenbaum Institute.
